I found a little faerie ring! This one was by the playground in Meadowbrook Park, maybe a mile from my home. The ring was about three feet across, and fairly fresh, though a few of the mature toadstools had been toppled by reckless passer-by.
Here’s a close-up of the mushrooms that made up the ring. A number of fungi produce faerie rings (about 60 species). I think these might be Meadow Mushrooms (Agaricus campestris), but I’m not certain.
I also found this enormous toadstool toppled in a neighborhood front lawn. Whether it was knocked over for being “ooky”, or had simply grown too huge to remain upright, I don’t know.
