The purple flowers of the Common Violet can be found everywhere in lawns, fence rows, and woodland edges in spring.
Sometimes a pale lavender blue shade is seen.
White violets are not uncommon. There is another species of violet found in woodlands (Viola striata) which always has white flowers.
Of particular interest is this – blue with veining that shades into white. I have always known these as a ‘Confederate Violet.’

Beautiful flowers thank you for sharing. Brought back memories of my parents back yard when I was a kid so many many years ago. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed them!
While wondering through the bush yesterday I found some dwarf yellow violets. Early for my neck of the woods. Take a look if you are interested, there is a picture at the bottom of the post. http://palliserpass.wordpress.com/2014/05/24/calypso-bulbosa/
I truly love the violets as I do love woodland flowers and wild flowers, walking in a field on a summer or spring sunny day surrounded by a field of wild flowers sounds like heaven.
